Merton Park
Urban project - new models ofsustainable residential living with nature and history. Merton Park Station: film studios, area of wildlife importance, transport hub.
Sustainable development - MBA with Groundwork Merton, and the Peabody Trust:
A proposal for mixed residential development clustered in a high value part of SW London around a new transport hub. The MBA/GwM/Peabody Trust proposal proposed safeguarding semi mature wildlife environments and threading though it deciduous and mutually dependent built development, controlling and safeguarding the site for public use. Use of the tram was encouraged by direct, efficient routes for bicyclists and pedestrians. An equal balance of jobs and habitations.
"A fresh approach to infill development - trying to keep the best of what is here - themed living, - imagine the dawn chorus"
"...the millions of journeys to work that have threaded their way through this archway - to become a community building"
Project team:
Marcus Beale, Doug Hughes - MBA,
John Merivale, Aileen Shackell - Groundwork Trust,
Malcolm Kirk - Peabody Trust
Maximum overlooking - common ownership of wildlife park with rights of way preserved. New sustainable housing - flats pub, station house creche, work place, clustered around and overlooking an urban wildlife garden in a preserved green corridor.
