Innholders Hall
Innholders Hall, a grade II* building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, was extensively remodelled in 1990-91.
The building has fragments of the pre-1666 construction, but dates mainly from about 1670, with alterations and an extension carried out in the nineteenth century. It was damaged by air raids in both the first and second world wars.
Our task was to integrate an adjacent office building from the 1960s, and provide a series of grand rooms which flow naturally from one to the other, whilst restoring the character of each of the spaces, some of which contain fine panelling. These radical alterations involved makiing many new openings, inserting two new staircases, and making two new historicist rooms, based on English classical traditiions of the mid to late eighteenth century. The new work includes modern services and comfort cooling.
