Architects & Cities

Cities are living organisms which renew and repair themselves all the time. Gathering together enables teamwork, specialised talent, commerce, industry, culture. A city is an arrangement of people. An act of built imagination.

Architects are intelligent parts of the city assisting in its renewal, providing habitable space. We carry nothing heavier than a pencil, yet deliver shelter, investment, inhabitation, and the theatre in which we live our daily lives.

Paradoxically, although we work hard at the built elements, the space enclosed is the valuable commodity. Although our work is described in drawings and photographs, space is invisible, better heard than seen. Although promoting community, habitation, usefulness, all our interventions restrict movement. Every wall is a political act, dividing one space from another.
